for $25 extra we can double our speeds but Covid has forced us to be a bit frugal. The company we use offers unlimited data at 25ms average with 15mbs. Internet speeds are not as important as low latency. They would tack on "maintenance" charges for people that never even showed up and the equipment was essentially rented so we were charged extra for that so screw that! We used to be with AT&T provider but they charged us almost $200/month for iffy 100+ latency at 40mbs. South Texas is half rural so broadband is somewhat limited and not every company down here offers unlimited data with a game/streaming package. Lol well.I pay almost $100/month for internet through a local company we've been with for almost a decade. Most of the US outside of major metropolitan areas are still under 20mbps, my Father in laws address is near Houston TX and the top speed money can buy (for $120 pm) is 2mbps.įrankly a lot of app issues with data load and Congestion (like the app defaulting to auto) is caused by people who live in cities that are well serviced who just assume its the same everywhere. Fiber to the point (or 100mbps+) will take longer still as it usually involves tearing up roads to lay the cable.ģ, Local Monopolies, Pretty limited outside of the US but if a local company has a monopoly on service (Comcast is a good example) there is less of a push to upgrade Infrastructure as its expensive to do. There are a few reasons for this in most localities mainly divided into three:ġ, Location, rural areas in most countries have not had anything other than copper cable rolled put to.Ģ, Old Infrastructure limitations, some EU cities have old copper based Infrastructure throughout the city, this takes time to replace with Fiber to the box, that will give speeds of 20 to 50 but rarely higher. With an estimated 2 decades of work to average out 50 Mbps The "global average" 2 years ago was 10 Mbps. I have done some work with ISPs in both Europe and in the US. Why did they even release this update? It improves absolutely nothing! Best part of it all is Twitch console now seems to have issues with chat server randomly disconnecting forcing you to reset stream triggering an ad-bomb. The only issues I had with Twitch was audio issues like low volume etc and HD streams being a bit buggy which I attributed to streamer bit rates being off since I can stream 4k with no issues. The previous version was almost seamless and worked perfectly fine. Also stream quality setting seems to default to auto even if you have it set to a lower value which I do at night so as not to take up family bandwidth. The worst part is so braindead and makes zero sense is that you are now forced to use the mobile app to communicate etc while viewing Twitch on console. The controls were changed so ANY action basically resets the stream and risks triggering an ad-bomb or sends you back to channel hub. So they snuck in a Twitch update that basically ruined the whole experience for watching Twitch on console. Thanks to /u/iTruthful and Conceptional for the art!
